Those of you who have been following Monster Sciences for some time now will realise that we’ve been having some issues of late. Unfortunately a while ago this site got hacked and everything on it was deleted. To make matters worse, there was a glitch in the backup system so even when I went to restore the site, much of the formatting of the pages was mangled and would have required hours of work to rectify. After much soul searching, research, advice seeking and angst the decision was eventually made to rebuild the entire site from scratch on an entirely new platform.
This has been no small thing – over the years I have written hundreds of experiments and other posts and while I still had the original experiments I had to painstakingly rebuild the pages for every single one of them. I am just one person – a teacher who is passionate about kids learning science by doing. I teach full time and am raising my own kids, so work on rebuilding the site has largely happened very late at night after they are in bed and all my programming, marking, reporting etc for my class are done. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, I tell you only so you will understand why Monster Sciences has taken a while to get back into full service, and appreciate just how happy I am that it is now ready for you all once again.
So please, have a look around. Take what you need to teach science to your kids in a way they will truly remember and understand. Spark their interest. Initiate dinner table conversations for your students when they tell their families “you won’t believe what we did in science today”. Enjoy teaching science.
If there is a specific concept or topic you would like to see some experiments for, please don’t hesitate to ask in the comments below – I will see what I can do. In the meantime I promise there are lots of new experiments being posted over the next few months and we are working on getting some more videos of experiments done too.
And if you think that maybe I deserve a cup of coffee or a glass of wine now that I’m back on track…. well, it would be rude to say no, wouldn’t it?!?!?
